What did we cover in the class?

Core Activity

Family relationships: From the family relationships printout that I distributed in class, a revision of all relationships was done and explained in real life context. Students were asked to read all the relationships and discuss them with parents.

Sametalu: The following Sametalu along with their meaning and usage was discussed.

1. విద్య లేని వాడు వింత పశువు
2. అడగందే అమ్మైనా పెట్టదు
3. పొరుగింటి పుల్లకూర రుచి
4. పిట్టకొంచెం కూత ఘనం

What did we cover in the class?

Core Activity

Reading a story: First paragraph in the story ధనవంతురాలి గిన్నె. Each student read a few lines in the first paragraph. For each line, pronouncing words, understanding nouns, adjectives and conjunctions was discussed. Appropriate vocabulary was also explained along with meaning and usage.


Day to day vocabulary: From this week onwards, for the next 3-4 weeks, we will spend about 50% of the class time in reviewing a few English words, the corresponding Telugu word for each of those English words, how to write the Telugu word, how to use it in a sentence and how to write the sentence. 

The following were discussed and explained in the pattern of the different sentence structures - niSchayaardhaka, praSnaardhaka, aajnaapoorvaka and aaScharyaardhaka

Daily - దైనందిన
నా దైనందిన కార్యక్రమము నడకతో మొదలగుతుంది (my daily routine begins with walk) - niSchayaardhaka

About - గురించి 
నువ్వు దేని గురించి మాట్లాడుతున్నావు? (What are you talking about?) - praSnaardhaka

Acid -  ఆమ్లము, Base - క్షారము  
నా ప్రయోగశాలలో ఆమ్లములు, క్షారాలు ఉన్నాయో లేదో చూసి చెప్పు (Check if we have acids and bases in our laboratory) - aajnaapoorvaka 

Across -  అడ్డంగా, ద్వారా, Horizontal -  అడ్డంగా, vertical - నిలువుగా
అబ్బా/ఆహా! అంత పెద్ద చెక్కని అడ్డంగా నరికేశావే! (wow! you cut across the large piece of wood!) -  aaScharyaardhaka

What did we cover in the class?

Core Activity

Students did not perform the  home work. So, the students were asked to complete the home work by next week. 

Family relationships: Family relationships printout that I distributed in last class. We discussed the first 2 pages. For each relationship discussed, students were asked use it in their own context and come up with a sentence.

The remaining is expected to discussed at home.

The following home work was due this week but, since students did not complete it, they can complete it by next week.

1. Read all the sentences in the vakyalu sheet along with a  parent. A hard copy is provided in the class. Soft copy can be found here

2. A hard copy is provided in the class with simple arithmetic. Students are supposed to fill it in Telugu only.

3. Family relationships: Students are expected to read all the family relationships in the given hard copy with a parent. Then, the blanks in the cover page need to be filled. Parents, please ensure that you work with your child on this.

4. Reading the two stories: Hard copy is provided in the class with Telugu script for the stories. The stories will be read by students in next class as well and I hope to see a level of fluency in reading the stories.
